gray on gray

Another blizzard here in the fair state of Wisconsin, and because Midwestern weather is always a neurotic, bipolar, temperamental mess, this was accompanied by thunder and lightning and all shades of apocalyptic splendor.

Something about this city is depressing, especially in winter. It isn't the weather, I'm used to that, it's just the feeling you get from looking out a window at block after block of gray on gray, concrete and slush and washed-out brick.

A fun fact (that is maybe a bit short on "fun")? The worst of these concrete monstrosities --Vilas Hall, Humanities-- were built to be riot proof. I guess the city planners never considered that maybe if we weren't so edgy from living in a city built from unadorned cement, we might be less inclined to riot.

I'm ok with gray for the next three and half years, but any longer than that and I'd probably plunge headfirst into crazy and end up building myself a clock tower to use as a sniping post. After graduation, readers, I am bound for brighter things. Chicago, maybe, or New York City, where even if the walls are made of concrete, they're at least covered in a fine layer of colorful graffiti and illuminated by neon lights at all hours of the day and night.
